The first CPPL series event of the 2014 season is in the books.  It was one of the most challenging and interesting events that the CPPL has ever run.  All the teams that braved the unique Canadian conditions did a fantastic job, the teams that triumphed over the elements and the competition truly deserved to win.

Saturday began with an interesting twist!  Winter is apparently not over just yet.  Thank fully indoor staging area provided by PAG indoor for all teams made it much more manageable.  Games began just a few minutes behind time, event was ahead of schedule by 11am.  Great job teams!!

The prelims went very well, with a few teams showing that they are ready for the 2014.  In D4 both Sindakit and Reign Boyz scored over 700 points.  Time would tell if they could keep up the pace.  In D3 Crimson Legion posted a fantastic 8-2 score to take the top spot heading for the playoff rounds.  The real race was to qualify in the top 4 spots, the final spot was decided by less than a full game score.  D2 was dominated by 2 teams, Saskatoon Savage and CKA jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  Wildside made a push late in the day, but fell just short of the playoff round.

5Man Playoffs

The D3 playoffs saw the first upset of the day.  Pandamonium defeated Regina Regulators in the first round of the playoffs to advance to the multi game finals.  They would face Crimson Legion in the championship round.  The D4 quarter final also saw an upset.  After qualifying in the last playoff spot, the Reality Kings toppled the EH Team to advance.

The Final rounds saw the return of the "Best of 3" format for determining the winners.  To the delight of all teams.  This is the preferred method to determine  the final rankings, it will be used when ever possible.

Sindakit and Mad Hatters rode into the finals on hot streaks.  Sindakit undefeated in the playoffs so far, and the Mad Hatters surviving a three round battle with the Reign Boyz.  Sindakit and Mad Hatters would play for the D4 championship.

Saskatoon Savage saved their best games for last.  They swept CKA in the final, two games to zero.  This was despite the great play of CKA player Calvin Foster who seemed to be in the 50 car wash all the time.  Congrats to the D2 5Man PAG Open Champions Saskatoon Savage.    Mad Hatters ended a 15 year drought as a team.  They stormed through the final winning in style, well done HATTERS!!

The event ended with much better weather than we started.  The Top teams have set the bar at a high lever for the 2014 season.  Teams may count their best 4 results for the season championship.  This means any team that didn't play E1, must play all the remaining events.
