MR Open 5Man Wrap UP

The CPPL second half begins in Edmonton.  Teams that have slipped and fallen have a chance to right the wrongs of the first 2 events.  Teams that have been perfect must continue the dominance shown in the spring season.  The second half means less cold weather, and more unpredictable heat mixed in with the violent thunderstorms that Alberta can be famous for.  The spring is over, it’s time to see what teams will be able to withstand the heat of the summer time.

The EH Team started the season slowly, taking 5th at CPPL E1 the PAG Open, since then they have been on a roll.  Consecutive 1st place finishes have them on top of the D4 standings, looking toward the next season as a D3 team or beyond.  To say they started this event in fine form would be an understatement.  3 perfect 100s to start the event, The EH team has brought their EH game!  Another team started nearly as fast, only 5 points behind after 3 games was two time second place finisher and March Mania Champions, Sindakit.  These teams seemed destined to meet at some point.  Would either team slip before being tested by the other?  With 8 teams attending this stop on the CPPL series, just 4 teams would advance to the next round.

The four teams that would advance separated themselves from the pack.  Finishing in 4th place nearly 150 points clear of BCB in 5th.  The Legion of BOOM would join The EH Team, Sindakit and The Bridge City Ballers in the D4 Semi finals.

The D4 semi-finalist were determined earlier than normal, The D3 playoffs teams were not decided until the very last game!  D3 and D2 teams would play a merged prelims, and split off to their own finals.  Spots 2nd - 4th in D3 were separated by just 10 points!!  This was the closest race that I can ever remember.  Saskatoon Savage edged out Hinton Chaos by the slimmest of margins.  The semi-final rounds were now set.

Saskatoon Savage D2 and Ragnarok dominated the prelim rounds of play.  They would again playoff for a D2 5Man Championship

Playoffs

The first round of the D4 playoffs was settled very quickly.  Both The EH Team and Sindakit pushed aside their challengers quite quickly.  In two straight games the legion of boom and 5150 were sent to the 3rd place game.  The final pairings were set.

The D4 playoffs were quick and easy, the D3 playoffs went much slower and needed every minute to decide the winners.  Pandamonium jumped out to an early lead on Saskatoon Savage, winning the first game of the best of 3.  The Savage boys stormed back however, taking the next 2 games, moving on to play for the D3 championship.

Saskatoon Savage and Ragnarok have been meeting each other with event championships on the line all year long.  This is something they look very likely to continue to do for the rest of the 2014 season, and on into the next level in 2015.  The 3rd 5Man of the event season would see “Savage” rise above the #1 D2 X-Division team and snatch another D2 5Man crown.  First goal accomplished, now both teams would look to Sunday, X-Division, and possibly a return match for more CPPL gold.

In what is shaping up to be a preview of the D4 series championship, Sindakit and The EH Team would decide who would stake an early claim to D4 series supremacy.  The final face off wouldn’t live up to the expectations.  The EH Team would close the deal in two straight games.  The D4 5Man MR Open championship was theirs.

The all “306” final would see for the first time a team registered for the X-Division win the 5Man portion of the event.  The Regina Regulators would claim their first D3 5Man victory of the season.  They would, just like Saskatoon Savage D2 have a chance to win two events in the same season.
